This letter is to inform you of the process the School District of Athens is using to send children home or keep children home during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are following guidance from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS).
Please be sure you are screening your children prior to the school day each morning. If your child has any of the symptoms listed below, as well as on the Daily Home Health Screening Checklist, please keep them home and notify the school of what symptoms are present. If your child comes to school with the symptoms listed in bold, they will be sent home in accordance with the DHS guidelines. Your child will need to stay home for 10 days from the onset of symptoms if no testing occurs. Please reference the included COVID-19 Health Screening Checklist for complete details, as this is the checklist we are using to determine action steps. DHS recommended quarantining information is also included for your reference. Please seek guidance from your provider whether your child should be tested for COVID-19. If testing is indicated, and your child’s test is negative, the child may return to school if symptoms have improved and they are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine. A child may also return to school if they have an alternate diagnosis confirmed by a medical professional. Please provide the school with a medical note indicating a negative result.
COVID-19 symptoms include:
Cough - new, unusual or persistent
Loss of sense of taste or smell
Fever reduced by medication (home until fever free, without medication, for 24 hours)
2 or more of these would also result in a quarantine period
Nausea or vomiting
Runny nose or nasal congestion
Fever or chills
We want to be transparent regarding DHS recommendations and appreciate your partnership during this school year and the COVID-19 pandemic.
