District Newsletter

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the start of the 2021 - 2022 school year, and officially introduce myself to the greater Athens community. I consider it a privilege to have been appointed by the school board as your new Superintendent of Schools.  I am a collaborative leader who will make every effort to foster and cultivate relationships between the school district and community to advance the district strategic plan.

The School District of Athens has earned a reputation for academic excellence, and the boundless opportunities offered beyond the classroom setting are exemplary, as they provide enriching learning  experiences for students at all levels. As an educational leader, I value the teaching and learning process, and I am committed to building upon current practices to ensure that all students have opportunities to explore which compliment their interests, and excite individual passions.

The level of community engagement and support for the school district has become evident to me, as I have engaged in conversations with many Athens residents and local key leaders.  During the next several months, I will seek opportunities to create teams of individuals to     advance the work of the school district. I am a servant leader who   empowers others to lead, learn, and work together to achieve common goals.

While serving as your Superintendent of Schools, I will be accessible to all stakeholders and maintain an open door communication policy. I   encourage and welcome conversation, questions, or comments you have about our schools. I believe in developing trusting relationships with students, families, staff, and community members by being open and honest in my communication style.

It takes a team of intelligent, confident, and kind people to move the work of a school district forward, and eventually reach the goals as defined by the members of the organization.  Serving in the role of   district administrator, it is my responsibility to develop and support a strong team of individuals to accomplish our goals, and instill a vision of excellence for all.  It is an exciting time for the School District of Athens, and I’m looking forward to the year ahead.

One town. One team. One dream.

Sincerely,

Andrea Sheridan
