Athens athletes participating in a fun Field Day!

Where do sheep go for summer vacation? The Baaaa-hamas! ☺ Come to the final Bedazzling Blue Jay Family Fun Night on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 6pm to 7pm to hear many more jokes presented by AES students and staff. There will also be summer learning tips shared and oversized-clothing relays guaranteed to bring joy and laughter!

Many preschoolers got to be the teacher during our thematic farm unit. They taught their classmates that life on the farm takes a lot of hard work, but they also enjoy many of the jobs they do. Some of their favorite jobs include feeding animals, collecting sap, milking cows, riding horses, and of course riding in combines and on tractors. A big thank you to the parents for sending the pictures! We sure enjoyed them!

Due to a number of inclement weather days this year, the School District of Athens is required by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to add more instructional time to the school calendar.
The Athens Board of Education has approved a full day of instruction on Friday, May 26, 2023 for students in grades Pre-K through grade 12.
In addition, five minutes of instruction will be added to the end of each school day for all elementary, middle, and high school students.
Listed below are the school start and end times for the remainder of this school year. This change will begin Wednesday, April 26, 2023.
School start and end times:
Maple Grove Charter School 8:00 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.
Athens Elementary 7:55 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.
Athens Middle and High School 7:55 a.m. - 3:25 p.m.

Kindergartners at AES participated in Jr. Achievement which is a class that teaches age appropriate money management skills. Tracy Engel taught our class and then invited us to learn about the bank where she works. Thank you, Tracy and Forward Bank!

The 4th graders traveled back in time to 1904 to learn just like a pioneer student would. They got to learn about turn of the century arithmetic, penmanship using dip pens and ink, recitation, geography/history, and spelling. Students dressed their part and even brought pioneer lunches! Thank you to the Marathon County Historical Society for allowing us to visit the Little Res Schoolhouse and our wonderful pioneer teacher, Mrs. Moellendorf. Lastly, thank you to our YES group for funding our transportation. We had a fun day of learning!!!

Tonight is Bedazzling Blue Jay Family Fun Night! See you at 6:00pm for a rhyme time...

The School District of Athens will be closed today, April 17th due to inclement weather. There will be no after school activities or athletic events.

National D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) day and beautiful springtime weather? Talk about a perfect combo!

1st graders took their math lesson outside Friday! They've been working on recording our weather temperatures daily to help them practice reading a bar graph!

Second grade readers went to the Athenian Living Center last week. These girls read several books to many of the residents. It was an awesome experience for the girls. The residents were so happy to visit and listen to our students.

March 20th- Ted Schultz-Becker
Ted is a great student! I enjoy his fun personality and his work ethic! He is very creative, thinking "outside the box" for his box shape, which is more complicated than the average box. Here are two sides of his treasure chest!

March 21st- Chase Ellenbecker
Chase's version of Picasso Guitars was very well executed. He used wonderful different blue hues (reminiscent of Picasso's Blue Period), broke up his well drawn guitar (a common element in Picasso's paintings) showing a sense of the Cubist Movement. Great work, Chase!

March 18th and 19th- Lena and Luna
My two "L" third graders who consistently create great work! Here are their birch tree projects, where they had to create space with overlapping, as well as consider the color and direction of light and shadow in their winter scenes!

March 17th- Itzel Espinoza
Itzel is a kind student who pays very close attention to detail. Her two basketball themed projects are shown here. The first was her box, where her intricate net detail really makes her piece stand out. The use of value (lights and darks) in her painting of this NBA player painted using analogous colors bring a great sense of space and form to her work!

All eligible district residents are encouraged to cast their vote today at the polls. Polls are open 7 AM-8 PM. Our District has ONE very important referendum question on the ballot. Every vote counts!

There are only two more Bedazzling Blue Jay Family Fun Nights left for this school year. Clearly, you don't want to miss them! Mark your calendars for Monday, April 17, 2023 from 6-7pm for a rhyme time...

March 16th- Emma Normand
Emma has a lot of talent coupled with a lot of determination to do things well. This beautiful Inner Self-Portrait took her quite a while but it was worth the wait!
