25 families participated in the April comedy night at AES.  Students practiced fluency and perseverance by reciting jokes and two silly stories were read modeling effective reading strategies.  Did you know that students who read 20 minutes per day are exposed to 1.8 million words in a year? Even reading just 5 minutes per day provides 282,000 words per year! What's the moral of this story?  PLEASE READ every day!

The students taught their classmates about the jobs they do on their family's farm and the animals they help take care of. The students learned that having farm animals is hard work, but it is also fun and rewarding.

The 4th graders at AES enjoyed a day at the Little Red School House in Wausau's Marathon Park. They stepped back into 1904 and learned many things. They used fountain pens for handwriting, participated in a spelling Bee, learned 1904 geography and history. At recess they played turn of the century games. The students enjoyed their Pioneer Day.

Mrs. Hartwigs preschoolers enjoyed some hands on learning activities during our outer space and dinosaur thematic units. Students created their own planets and described their planets by answering questions. Students got to be paleontologists and learned about dinosaurs, explored dinosaurs through our dig site with dinosaur skeletons, built letters out of bones, and searched for letters in dinosaur eggs.

Surgery... In first grade?! Yes! The students at AES became doctors and did word surgery on their patients to practice contractions. Students were given word "patients" to make words such as 'do not' into the word 'don't.' These future doctors cut the patients, stitched, bandaged, and placed the patients in the recovery room. Great job!
