Good Morning! Due to some impending severe weather forecasts, there are a few athletic updates to share: Tonight's Regional Varsity Girls Basketball game vs. Rib Lake will begin at 6 p.m. at the Athens High School. Thursday's Boys Basketball games @ Chequamegon have been moved to tonight. JV Game Time is 5:45p; Varsity at 7:15p. Bus will be leaving at 3:30p. Go Bluejays!

Bluejay Nation: Please join us in the AHS Gym tomorrow, February 21, at 9:30 a.m. as we celebrate two HUGE accomplishments in one booming assembly! We’re cheering on Cambrea Sarasin as she prepares to sing in the ACDA National Honor Choir this week in Cincinnati, OH! Cambrea will rehearse with the choir from February 22-25, and then perform in a concert on Saturday the 25th. Congratulations, Cambrea, on this enormous honor! It is truly amazing to have a student represent our school at this national-level event. We are continuing the momentum and cheering on Elle Gauerke as she makes her way to State Wrestling in Madison on Thursday, February 23. Elle is the first female in AHS history to make it to State! She is the daughter of Danielle & Coach Jodi Gauerke. We are extremely excited to have her represent our school and our wrestling team!

The February 20th School Board Meeting will be moved up to 5:00 pm at the Athens Middle/High School Library.

Marathon County Special Education is seeking a full time Paraprofessionals. Benefits available based on FTE and job position. Starting pay at $15/hrly. Past experience preferred. With the help of a mental health grant, Athens School Counselors are proud to announce: 'Parenting the Love & Logic Way' presented by Kelly Witt-Erickson. Session Dates: March 6, March 13, & March 20, 2023. Join us as we learn practical parenting skills that can be used immediately. Dinner & childcare will be provided. The Athens Board of Education unanimously approve the following referendum resolution: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET TO EXCEED REVENUE LIMIT FOR FOUR YEARS FOR NON-RECURRING PURPOSES. BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of the School District of Athens, Marathon and Taylor Counties, Wisconsin that the revenues included in the School District budget be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $1,670,000 for the 2023-2024 school year, and by $1,200,000 per year for the 2024-2025 school year through the 2026-2027 school year, for non-recurring purposes consisting of operational and maintenance expenses. Adopted and recorded January 16, 2023. Additional referendum information and community listening sessions will be forthcoming during the next several weeks.

Tonight's Middle School Girls Basketball game @ Phillips has been canceled.

Two Athens FFA members competed in the District LDE competition or speaking contest on January 25th. For their first time competing both did really well. Katelynn competed in the Discussion Meet, where six members try to reach a consensus on a topic. Bella competed in Prepared speech, where she had to write and present a 6 to 8 minute speech on an agricultural topic, and she also competed in Creed speaking, where she had to memorize the FFA Creed and recite it word for word. Congrats to Bella who is advancing to the Sectional contest in March for the Creed Speaking Event!!!

Veterinary Medical Terminology finished up the semester with a few labs. The students practiced how to suture up wounds, learned the different types of injections and practiced on oranges, and practiced how to restrain and handle Gerald and Geraldine our practice pups.

Tonight's Sporting Events have been canceled. This includes: MS Wrestling Match at Merrill, MS Girls Basketball Game at St. Mary's, & HS JV/Varsity Boys Basketball Game at Nekoosa. Stay safe, everyone!

Middle School students were recognized for their achievements in the month of December. They were given awards for "Student of the Month", "No Late Work", and being spotted "Doing it Right". Nice work, Bluejays!

The 7th grade agriculture class has been working through the ABCs of agriculture. Over the course of the quarter they have tasted different varieties of apples and milk, tasted various cranberry products, made ice cream and learned about various areas of agriculture.
