What a fantastic family night at MGCS with our Fall Festival sponsored by our PTO! We had a spooktacular book walk and scavenger hunt on our trails through the woods, indoors we had a cake walk, food, book fair, and face painting! Thank you to all our families that came to enjoy the evening with us and to our awesome PTO for all your work to make this event possible!

Tie-Dying fun for our monthly reading incentive at MGCS for learners meeting their monthly at home reading goal! Learners set their own goal that is “just right” for them with their classroom teacher each month. They then work all month to achieve this goal. Then they reflect with their teacher at the end of the month on their progress and setting their next months goal based on how that current month went. Goal setting is something they will grow and learn from and use throughout their life.

Fungi, lichen, and moss...oh my!  Kindergarten students at MGCS discovered these living things during our weekly lab experience. Using our knowledge about color, shape, size, and texture, learners described each fungus they found using these attributes.

To celebrate their hard work and perseverance during our poetry unit, 4th graders along with 5th grade at Maple Grove Charter School had the great opportunity to welcome published poet and community member James Botsford to our classroom to share about poetry. It was a great day hearing about James’ experience and inspiration with poetry, listening to some of his poems, and students being able to share their own poetry. We were so thankful to have James share his one of his passions with us today.

With fire safety this week, 1st graders and learners at MGCS were excited to have a visit from the Hamburg Fire Department. 1st graders showed their CRISP traits in their respectful listening to fire safety practices and displayed craftsmanship in a coloring contest. As the firefighters said, “it was incredibly hard to choose 3 winners”, but the 3 they chose definitely showed that craftsmanship of a Maple Grove fox and could not stop smiling today! 😊🔥🚒🧯Way to go girls!

This week, fifth grade students from MGCS and Athens Elementary visited The Highgrounds Veterans Memorial Park. This trip was sponsored by Mar-Lin VFW Post 10203 and afforded students the opportunity to learn about the lives of veterans, see memorials and monuments, and witness a flag retirement ceremony. It was a beautiful day to honor our veterans.

At MGCS we’re so EXCITED to welcome our 3 chickens and rooster back! Thank you to the Kohnhorst family for giving us the opportunity to learn from them again. Our learners will take turns feeding and watering them, collecting their eggs, and cleaning up after them. There’s nothing better than hearing the rooster say “good morning” everyday 🐓

MGCS kindergarten students spent this week's outdoor lab experience identifying maple trees by their bark and leaves. Once they were found and considered large enough, we chose our very own to tap this year! 🍁
