Tie-Dying fun for our monthly reading incentive at MGCS for learners meeting their monthly at home reading goal!
Learners set their own goal that is “just right” for them with their classroom teacher each month. They then work all month to achieve this goal. Then they reflect with their teacher at the end of the month on their progress and setting their next months goal based on how that current month went. Goal setting is something they will grow and learn from and use throughout their life.

Fungi, lichen, and moss...oh my! Kindergarten students at MGCS discovered these living things during our weekly lab experience. Using our knowledge about color, shape, size, and texture, learners described each fungus they found using these attributes.

To celebrate their hard work and perseverance during our poetry unit, 4th graders along with 5th grade at Maple Grove Charter School had the great opportunity to welcome published poet and community member James Botsford to our classroom to share about poetry. It was a great day hearing about James’ experience and inspiration with poetry, listening to some of his poems, and students being able to share their own poetry. We were so thankful to have James share his one of his passions with us today.

We have two questions on the November 8 general election ballot. Be a part of the decision. It's as Easy as 1, 2, 3!

With fire safety this week, 1st graders and learners at MGCS were excited to have a visit from the Hamburg Fire Department. 1st graders showed their CRISP traits in their respectful listening to fire safety practices and displayed craftsmanship in a coloring contest. As the firefighters said, “it was incredibly hard to choose 3 winners”, but the 3 they chose definitely showed that craftsmanship of a Maple Grove fox and could not stop smiling today! 😊🔥🚒🧯Way to go girls!

Thank you to MGCS Governance Board and PTO for our GaGa Pit. This is a great game that we can integrate our CRISP traits of Integrity and Respect! It such a fun game for the kids and adults too!

On the November 8 general election ballot, the School District of Athens is asking voters to approve a recurring operational referendum question for $900,000 in 2022-23 and $1.67 million per year thereafter for operational and maintenance expenses; and a $5.525 million capital referendum for a Middle/High School building addition and District facilities improvements.

This week, fifth grade students from MGCS and Athens Elementary visited The Highgrounds Veterans Memorial Park. This trip was sponsored by Mar-Lin VFW Post 10203 and afforded students the opportunity to learn about the lives of veterans, see memorials and monuments, and witness a flag retirement ceremony. It was a beautiful day to honor our veterans.

Maple Grove Phone and Internet service is back up. Thank you for your patience.

All eligible district residents are encouraged to cast their vote today at the polls. Our District has two very important referendum questions on the ballot. Every vote counts!

At MGCS we’re so EXCITED to welcome our 3 chickens and rooster back! Thank you to the Kohnhorst family for giving us the opportunity to learn from them again. Our learners will take turns feeding and watering them, collecting their eggs, and cleaning up after them. There’s nothing better than hearing the rooster say “good morning” everyday 🐓

MGCS kindergarten students spent this week's outdoor lab experience identifying maple trees by their bark and leaves. Once they were found and considered large enough, we chose our very own to tap this year! 🍁

On Friday, Maple Grove Charter School learners participated in a study of the Big Rib River at Amco Park with the help of our outdoor experience guide, Sandy Benton. Second, fourth, and fifth grade classes gained hands-on experience while investigating our local ecosystem and the creatures that inhabit it. Learners will use this knowledge to consider the health and conservation of our local water systems.

Ms Etten’s 1st graders at Maple Grove Charter School had Sandy Benton from FieldEdventures to help them learn how to identify maple trees based on the branches, bark, and leaves. After identifying maple trees, students were able to use new tools to measure and flag. They definitely enjoyed being able to use an open reel tape measure and flag tape more than many toys. I love the learning that can take place in the outdoors at a school like Maple Grove. I have no doubt it will be exciting for them to journal about their tree throughout the changing of seasons! Now the waiting game….. many of them were wanting to tap their trees as soon as next week 😊🪵🍁📝

Ms Barrick's third graders at Maple Grove Charter School with the help of Sandy Benton from FieldEdventures designed frog/toad houses and pit traps after evaluating if the locations on the school property would be suitable for meeting their species' basic needs. They will continue to monitor and survey throughout next week and journal their observations. **Disclaimer: The pit traps were not left over the weekend due to ethic reasons.

MGCS 4th graders had a great first week building our classroom community and learning about the natural world around us. We are so ready for a great year ahead of us!
