Only at Maple Grove Charter School can young learners enjoy the wooded outdoors and build forts during their lunch hour recess! Engineers, Architects, Designers Loggers, Builders, etc. in the making! ...and it all started at Recess!

These kindergarten foxes at MGCS quickly realized it would take more than just sticks to form letters of the alphabet. This collaborative piece was loved by all! We also practiced our Stewardship CRISP trait by simply returning the items back to their home: the woods!

Our art classes at MGCS have been exploring art through our beautiful surroundings! They are also starting to create an art portfolio that they will carry through their elementary career.

Maple Grove Charter School values strong community connections and our kindergarten students recently experienced this! They listened to the story "Tip Counts to Ten" which was written by Lisa van Klaveren- another former Maple Grove student who grew up in Hamburg. The author's mother actually used to babysit Ms. Riehle and her sisters! Lisa now resides in New Zealand with her family and owns her own business as a crochet designer.
"Tip Counts to Ten" is based on a true story about Farmer Cliff's dog who helped him in a tricky situation on his farm. Pictured below is the real Farmer Cliff and the crocheted border collie Lisa created. Lisa donated her book to Maple Grove when it was first published and Ms. Riehle was so excited to find the signed copy in her room!

Our littlest foxes explored Maple Grove's beautiful school forest in an exciting way...a color hunt! Who knew there were so many shades of green, orange, red, and brown? Our kindergartners already adore Maple Grove Charter School and everything it has to offer.

MGCS fifth grade students have been working together to compost lunch scraps and maintain compost piles in the school forest. They are becoming experts and have been sharing their knowledge with other MGCS students!

We held our first Community Crew on Friday to kick off our CRISP traits (Craftsmanship, Respect, Integrity, Stewardship, Perseverance)! We had an overview of each trait and recognized some of our learners who already displayed some of these traits. We will recognize learners throughout the month with Foxtails when they are “caught” showing these traits. During morning Crew we will look at each trait more in depth throughout the year! The kids were also excited to see the appearance of our mascot!

Engaging learning happening all around us at MGCS!

Our 5th graders at MGCS are already diving in and learning how to make our school environment better and our earth cleaner. They are learning about what can be composted and we are already composting in our lunch room as a whole school! These 5th graders will become the leaders to then teach the 4th graders and eventually all learners.

Our 4/5 learners are exploring their new Chromebooks at MGCS!
