Kindergarten students from Maple Grove Charter School enjoyed their very first time at the Merrill School Forest!  We had an amazing time despite the early rain and chilly fall temperature. Thank you Mr. Noland for spending the day with our excited group as we learned about animals in winter, camouflage, and SO much more 🍂🦉 Needless to say, we are all ready for the next trip!

Fifth grade students from Maple Grove and Athens Elementary attended a field trip to the Highground Veterans Memorial Park and Museum in Neillsville earlier this month. Our trip was sponsored by the Mar-Lin VFW Post 10203, and we were lucky to be joined by some local veterans who shared their stories with us. It was an amazing learning experience!

Our outstanding Hamburg Volunteer Fire department was at MGCS this morning teaching us all about fire safety. Learners had the opportunity to see a variety of equipment and sit in the fire trucks. They even received a gift from the firefighters 🚒 They truly are a gift to our community of Hamburg and our school!

Thank you Hamburg volunteer fire department for spending the morning with Maple Grove Charter School students and staff! Fire Safety🔥🚒🧯
At MGCS we spent some time celebrating the learners who reached their September reading incentive. Learners who reached their individualized September goal painted pumpkins 🎃, that were donated by our very own Mrs. Dvorak! They also had a special treat of apple nachos 🍎 We reiterated how setting goals and persevering to reach them is a lifelong skill. It was an eventful and exciting day at Maple Grove Charter School!

The kindergarten foxes at MGCS welcomed October by taking advantage of this great weather. We explored nature rubbings with leaves, rocks, bark, plants, and even tried pinecones. That last item definitely took some perseverance!

First graders at Maple Grove Charter School celebrated the beginning of fall by spending a little extra time outside. While outside they worked and talked about the CRISP trait of the week: R for Respect. Students recognized how respect is shown in actions towards others as well as actions affecting nature.

Maple Grove Charter School 4th graders had the best time exploring the Ice Age Trail and learning more about incredible rock formations during our field trip to the Merrill School Forest. We were able to learn more about our state’s history by hiking to Ice Age Trail and exploring how the Ice Ages have shaped our land. We are beyond grateful to our Governance Board for making it possible for us to continue this tradition of visiting the Merrill School Forest, and also to Mr. Noland for preparing such rich and engaging lessons for our students. We cannot wait for more exploratory experiences at Maple Grove Charter School!

Over the summer the School District of Athens updated our online payment provider. As a result it cause a issue with the ability to pay lunch balance through your Infinite Campus Portal Account. We have resolved those issues so you can once again pay online using your portal account. If you have any questions or are new to the district and like additional information, email Nathan Brost at nbrost@athens1.org.

These kindergarten foxes at MGCS quickly realized it would take more than just sticks to form letters of the alphabet. This collaborative piece was loved by all! We also practiced our Stewardship CRISP trait by simply returning the items back to their home: the woods!

Maple Grove Charter School values strong community connections and our kindergarten students recently experienced this! They listened to the story "Tip Counts to Ten" which was written by Lisa van Klaveren- another former Maple Grove student who grew up in Hamburg. The author's mother actually used to babysit Ms. Riehle and her sisters! Lisa now resides in New Zealand with her family and owns her own business as a crochet designer. "Tip Counts to Ten" is based on a true story about Farmer Cliff's dog who helped him in a tricky situation on his farm. Pictured below is the real Farmer Cliff and the crocheted border collie Lisa created. Lisa donated her book to Maple Grove when it was first published and Ms. Riehle was so excited to find the signed copy in her room!
