What a busy week in kindergarten at Maple Grove Charter School! They rocked their Christmas Concert on Tuesday and topped it off with a magical Polar Express event with their 4/5th grade buddies. The Artus family provided an afternoon full of hot chocolate, popcorn, cookies, and holiday spirit. Thank you for continuing this tradition!

Kindergarten students at MGCS had the opportunity to create their very own toys out of recycled materials, loose parts, and sticks from our school forest. We have been working on comparing toys from the past and present, discussing what toys we prefer, and how using our imagination is the best toy of all!
Some of their creations included: a rocket, lava monster, popsicle, race cars, and a freezer (ice cubes included, of course). They worked hard and used craftsmanship and perseverance to produce something they were proud of!

On Nov. 4 Maple Grove Charter School Staff held their annual Chili Event! First graders were challenged to take on a mission of creating a magnificent thing for the classroom. Students came up with the ideas as a class, then worked collaboratively to make it come to life. Students showed their CRISP traits in the craftsmanship and perseverance!
Here's what students created:
#1-10 indoor hopscotch - created by Cali and Airia
Morning lunch choice board - created by Avery and Mason
Pencil holders - created by Clay and Emma
Classroom paper chain - created by Iris and Cassidy
Alphabet mobile - created by Justin, Levi, and Bryana
Classroom Mailbox - created by Jolene and Dexter (not pictured)
I love how these all turned out and was so proud of the collaboration more than anything😊

The current exploratory unit in Kindergarten at Maple Grove is all about "Toys and Play"- both important components in early childhood! We have been learning how to describe materials by their attributes and took it one step further by practicing with pumpkins, gourds, and squash! Learners loved telling others about their item's color, shape, size, and texture.

Kindergarten students at MGCS had a blast during our Halloween celebration! We used our sense of touch to guess what was used for different "witchy" body parts, had a party with fun snacks and drinks, and topped the day off with a whole school costume parade and dance party. Happy Halloween! 🎃

Third grade celebrated Halloween with costumes, STEAM activities
and a dance party/parade.

First grade celebrated Halloween with spooky stories, witches brew snack mix, candy corn math, and illustrating/writing “what should my teacher be for Halloween”. The day ended with a school wide dance party and parade! Happy Halloween from the first grade🎃❤️

Maple Grove Charter School fourth and fifth grade learners have spent our first quarter in school working hard using Accelerated Reader. Accelerated Reader is a program we have been using that tracks students independent reading practice and progress by using comprehension quizzes after students complete books and articles. As a fourth grade class they have collectively read 320 books and 281 articles since the beginning of the year and every student has met their goal that was set through this program! We celebrated their achievement today through an award ceremony followed by flashlight reading. We could not be more proud of these fourth and fifth grade learners!

Third graders at Maple Grove Charter School earned a pajama day for their outstanding classroom CRISP traits. Keep up the great work!
